Sharing Files

On all Windows systems, you can share information rather easily. You can just right-click on a directory, select the Sharing tab (see Figure 2-6), name the share, and click OK. This share will now be available to all Windows users who can connect to your machine. The default permissions granted are Everyone Full Control. That is bad—the permissions are far too broad. To change them, click Permissions and set everyone to Read (assuming people do not need to edit files on the share). Better yet, remove the Everyone group and replace it with the name or group that needs the access. You can see an example of this access reduction in Figure 2-7.
