Can Anyone Help?

I hope you realize now, without being too scared, that computer security is a tough endeavor—so tough that you might want to find help. If so, you are in luck: plenty of people are willing and able to help. I have placed links in Appendix A to many different resources about security, but these are especially notable:

  • Microsoft Security Bulletin (www.microsoft.com/security): A great source of Microsoft Security information. Lots of information for nontechies and techies alike. Be sure to subscribe to the security alert mailing list for e-mail updates about security patches for Microsoft products.

  • NTBugTraq (ntbugtraq.ntadvice.com/): A great mailing list and Web site mainly devoted to NT security but covering many Microsoft issues with other products too.

  • Security Focus (www.securityfocus.com): A veritable clearing house of security information for a variety of operating systems and products. Includes, of course, Microsoft products and operating systems.
