Key Technical Terms

CATV— Community Antenna Television is the cable network connection that many people rely upon for receiving television channels and programming. CATV networks are also providing high-speed Internet access and are supporting voice telephony.

DHCP— Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is a software service provided by designated LAN servers that lease IP addresses to PC hosts as requested by the PC hosts. The leased addresses are allocated from a pool of addresses managed by the DHCP server. DHCP clients “Obtain an IP address automatically.” DHCP facilitates more centralized TCP/IP LAN management.
