Chapter 10. Home Networking Services

Chapter 10. Home Networking Services

In this chapter…

With the development of broadband local loop technologies, a new concept has emerged for service providers to begin deploying entirely digital networks. The main driver for these new generation networks is the ability to offer the consumer "converged voice and data" services. Basically, this means that a broadband service provider could now offer local and long distance telephony and high-speed Internet access to consumers as a bundled service. To be able to fully interoperate with these new service offerings, home networks have some basic requirements. This chapter examines some of the core services that are required to support the smooth operation of an in-home network.
