Chapter 12. Digital Harmony > DIGITAL HARMONY TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

DIGITAL HARMONY TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

Digital Harmony Protocol Suite

Digital Harmony-certified devices comply with the Digital Harmony protocol suite, a suite of open, international protocols and specifications that, when implemented, enable digital home entertainment devices to operate together in a 1394 network.

"Home entertainment devices" is loosely defined to be the audio and video devices that a normal person would have in the living room. This includes stereo equipment, speakers, televisions, DVD players, CATV set-top boxes, VCRs, etc. It does not include non-entertainment devices that might be found in the home—e.g., printers, scanners, HVAC, kitchen appliances, security systems. (These nonentertainment devices can, however, be connected to a Digital Harmony system via bridge devices.)
