Chapter 10. Creating Music CDs > About CD Burners

83. About CD Burners

To burn a CD from iTunes, you must have a CD burner connected to your computer. All new Apple computers are sold with either a CD-RW drive or a SuperDrive capable of burning CDs from iTunes or any other Mac OS X application. From iTunes, you can burn audio files onto any of the disc formats supported by the available drive. For example, if your computer has a CD-RW drive, you can burn audio CDs on CD-R and CD-RW discs. With a SuperDrive, you can burn audio files on DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. Even if you have a SuperDrive in your computer, you can burn DVDs from iTunes only if you are running Mac OS X version 2.4 or later. Unlike a CD, which can hold only about 650 megabytes of data, a DVD can hold 4.7 gigabytes. See 135 About DVDs for more information on working with DVDs on your computer.
