Chapter 1. ✓ Start Here > What Is iLife?

What Is iLife?

If you have looked at the programs installed on your Apple computer, you have probably been unsuccessful in locating a program called iLife. That is because iLife does not refer to a specific program; it identifies a group of multimedia programs also referred to as the Digital Hub. You have probably noticed several other programs whose names start with the letter I, including iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto, and iDVD. These programs plus GarageBand make up what Apple has dubbed iLife.

iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto, and iDVD have been integrated so that although they are separate programs, you can share the media among the programs. For example, you can use the audio files in your iTunes library in a movie you create in iMovie, a slideshow in iPhoto, or even as part of the audio for your DVD menu in iDVD. This seamless integration between the four applications is what makes the iLife programs so appealing.
