To delete junk mail before it ever appears in your box

1.
From the Mail menu, choose “Preferences….” Click the “Junk Mail” button.

Tip

If you buy airline tickets online, the email confirmation might be considered spam and thus deleted. I set up a special rule (see pages 453455) that allows mail from places like Southwest or Virgin to stay in my inbox.

As shown on the opposite page, put a check in the box to “Enable junk mail filtering.”

Click the button to “Perform custom actions (Click Advanced to configure).”

Click the “Advanced…” button. You'll see the sheet shown below.

Click on the bottom menu, the one that probably says “Set Color,” as shown on the opposite page. Choose “Delete Message.” Now any mail that fulfills those conditions will be instantly deleted.
