Chapter 3. iMovie > Add Clips to the Timeline

Add Clips to the Timeline

We like to keep the original clips unaltered in the Clips Pane, then copy and paste segments into the Timeline (instead of dragging trimmed or cropped clips straight from the Clips Pane to the Timeline). This makes it easy to go back to the original, unaltered clips.

A simple way to add clips to the Timeline is to just drag a clip from the Clips Pane to the Timeline. This leaves an empty space in the Clips Pane. We prefer to use the copy-and-paste technique described here so the Clips Pane always contains a full original copy of all our imported clips. When we want to grab a certain clip or just a segment of a clip, we don't have to search in the Timeline for it.
