Getting to Know a DVD

DVDs are for more than playing movies. A DVD can play all kinds of media—from videos to slide shows to music—but it's also a big storage device. A DVD holds 4.7 GB of data—actually more like 4.3 GB (the discrepancy is partly because of the way computers measure the capacity). There are primarily two types of DVDs. One kind holds movies (a regular DVD), and the other holds software and files (sometimes referred to as a DVD-ROM).
