Chapter 10. Hammerhead Live: > What You'll Need - Pg. 316

Hammerhead What You'll Need Material-wise, you need about a foot of 4"-diameter copper pipe. NOTE: Material substitution is always acceptable, but please don't even think about attempting this build with the ubiquitous PVC piping. Ensuring a steady rate of rotation under varying load means harnessing inertial mass to cancel out some of the negative vec- tors. PVC doesn't attract enough gravity to cut this gig, or suffi- cient material cohesion to form strong enough threads to hold the event pins in place. · · · · · · 6 feet of ¼-20 threaded rod At least 50 ¼-20 acorn nuts One ¼-20 T-nut Lots of 6-32 and ¼-20 machine screws Brass washers to match A fistful of 1" and 1¼" #6 wood screws Wood requirements are more modest: 24" x 24" of ¾" plywood 18" of ¼" x 6" hardwood Three feet of 1" x 4" hardwood A foot or two each of ¼" and 3 / 8 " poplar dowel Five feet of 1" hardwood dowel.
