MAKE: PROJECTS Eccentric Cubicle Figure 03.51: Started life as a humble 1" threaded brass end cap, believe it or not. Figure 03.52: Yeah, it's a ratchet pawl. Others require a bit more of an explanation. The ratchet is fabricated from a 1" threaded brass pipe cap. We're using the 1 3 / 8 " hex head portion of the fitting, so out with the hacksaw and cut off the threaded bit. Locate and punch-start the seven holes and drill `em out. The center hole is sized to 17 / 64 " and gets threaded to 5 / 16 -18; the perimeter holes are 5 / 16 " and get abused mercilessly soon after being drilled. [Figure 03.53 ] NOTE: Take your time; get it right. The white lines on the diagram indicate cut lines. You're cutting through 5 / 16 " metal, which is far beyond the capacity of a rotary hobby tool. Fortunately, the metal is brass, which makes it a less formidable task. I like those little junior hacksaws for this size of cutting. They're more Figure 03.53: Start with one of these. Figure 03.54: Do all this stuff to it. 74
