Identify Trouble Spots

If you’re serious about making X10 as reliable as possible, these tools and techniques will help you find problem areas.

It happens to everyone, eventually: you’re faced with an X10 module that just won’t turn off, or turn on, or dim properly when you send it commands. You know your system is working—other devices respond as they should—but for some reason, a lamp or two just refuse to cooperate. What you have, my friend, is a transmission trouble spot. What you need is a way to identify its source so that you can eliminate the problem and get back to work on more interesting projects.

No single method is available for finding and eliminating the source of X10 problems. There are tradeoffs between budget, convenience, nature of the gremlins, how technical you are, and how persistent you care to be in resolving the problem.
