Chart Home Automation Data

You can mine your home automation system for information about your home, but you need a way to save and view the data you’re interested in.

One of the missing tools in the home automation arena is a means to view simultaneous action and reactions easily and quickly. For example, when the air conditioner comes on, how long does it take before the room temperature drops, and by how many degrees does it fall? If the fan in the greenhouse is set to come on when the inside temperature reaches 78 degrees Fahrenheit, how many times a day does it turn on? You can answer these types of questions by plotting home automation data in graphical form. In my system, I plot weather data, the voltage levels from my solar panel, greenhouse temperatures and cooling fan usage, and the water levels in my fishponds. I can also create a chart showing the number of times, and when, my front gate has been opened, and when there was movement in my house.
