Secure Your Construction Site

With some battery-operated security equipment and a little ingenuity, you can help protect a construction site from vandalism and theft.

Here’s the scenario: you’re constructing a home in a rural, wooded area that’s far from your current residence. There’s no electricity at the site yet, the sheriff’s patrols are infrequent, and the closest city with a police force is 20 minutes away. The nearest neighbor is a quarter mile away and can’t see the site easily. As a result, the site is a sitting duck for thieves. They come at night and help themselves to power tools, generators, and building supplies.

What you need is a way to discourage or prevent these thefts. The solution would have to last for a couple of days unattended. Subcontractors show up early every weekday, so it would have to cut off and on at certain times, then continue to work by itself on the occasional weekend when you’re unable to visit the site. Here are some possible approaches.
