Install a Home TV Server

Add a TV tuner and software to your PC to create a server that makes live video from your home viewable in a web browser.

I have two web cameras [Hack #82] that I can access from the Internet, but I also have several closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in and around my home. I can view the output from the CCTV cameras from any TV in my home, thanks to a channel modulator from ChannelPlus (http://www.channelplus.com; from about $60) that broadcasts the cameras onto unused channels on my home’s cable TV system. This enables me to tune any TV in the home to channel 110, for example, to view the image from the camera at the front door. Tuning to channel 111 shows me what’s happening in the kid’s room, and so on, with the other cameras. It’s a useful system, but I wanted to be able to also view the cameras from the Web, not just on the televisions in my home.
