Broadcast Announcements to the Whole House

If you use the text-to-speech capabilities or recorded messages to provide announcements, you need a whole-house audio system that will enable you to hear the announcements everywhere. If your house isn’t wired with speakers, you can use your existing telephone lines to provide a voice-quality public address system.

Most homes built within the last 30 years are wired to support multiple telephone lines. If you have only one or two phone lines, you likely have the capacity to support more lines. It’s simple to use the spare telephone line capacity for an announcement system connected to your home automation system. The audio quality won’t be good enough to play music, but it will be more than adequate for voice. It literally will be telephone-quality audio. Because you won’t be able to achieve high quality, and it’s not stereo sound, you can implement this system using inexpensive audio components.
