12.2. Video Cameras

In this phase, you will plan your camera layout, select cameras that suit the locations you chose, and then physically install the cameras.

12.2.1. 1. Plan your camera layout

The areas of your home that you need to capture on video and the locations where you install your cameras will determine the type of camera you need to purchase. For example, if you need to monitor your driveway to verify that the snowplow service is doing its job, you will need to position a camera overlooking your driveway. When monitoring outdoor locations, try to find a window where you can permanently position the camera. If there is not a window overlooking the location, find a spot on the outside of the house where you can fasten a camera, and drill a hole to the interior of the house through which to run power and video cables.
