Decibel Meter

A device that measures sound pressure level (SPL). This measure tells the user how loudly an audio signal is being reproduced. Decibel meters are typically used in conjunction with a calibration disc to measure the output level of each speaker in a home theater system to ensure that each speaker outputs the same volume level during playback.

Digital Input

An input on a home theater receiver that receives a digital signal from either an optical cable or a digital coaxial cable. Dolby Digital and DTS surround formats use digital inputs to pass their digital bitstreams to the receiver for the receiver to decode. (See Figure G.12.)
