Chapter 8.  Working Magic  >  Playing iPod Music through iTunes

Playing iPod Music through iTunes

Normally, when you connect your iPod to your Mac, iTunes starts up and automatically updates the iPod with your iTunes music library (unless you turned off the “automatic update” option in the Setup Assistant or changed it with the iPod button for iPod options, as described in Chapter 3).

To connect your iPod to play music through your Mac, see “Playing Music on Your Mac” in Chapter 2. During this process, you switch your iPod to update manually rather than automatically (by clicking the iPod Options button and turning on the “Manually manage songs and playlists” option. After setting the iPod to update manually, your iPod’s name appears in full black and its song list appears when you select it. The iPod name can be opened like any other iTunes source in the list.
