Chapter 7.  Solving Problems  >  Updating Your iPod Firmware and Software ...

Updating Your iPod Firmware and Software

You should be certain your iPod has the most recent iPod firmware update installed. To determine which version of the iPod software is installed on your iPod, press the Menu button until you see the iPod main menu, and choose Settings>About (in earlier versions, choose Settings>Info). You should see information next to “Version” that describes the software version installed on your iPod.

Macintosh Updating

For the Mac version, you can use the iPod Software Updater application to update or restore your iPod. You can download this application from Apple Software Downloads (http://www.apple.com/swupdates/). You can also determine the software version on your iPod by using iPod Software Updater: Connect your iPod to your computer, and launch iPod Software Updater. The iPod Software Updater window appears. The software version appears next to the “Software Version” heading. If this version of the iPod Software Updater application has a newer software version that it can install on your iPod, you will see “(needs update)” next to the version number. If not, you’ll see “(up to date).”
