Chapter 18. The Palm Family, Model by Mo... > Second Generation: PalmPilot Persona...

18.2. Second Generation: PalmPilot Personal, PalmPilot Professional

The 1997 PalmPilot models added several important features to the original design—in addition to the word Palm at the beginning of the name:

  • Backlighting, as described in Chapter 1. A tiny light-bulb design adorns the on/off switch to remind you of the switch's dual function.

  • Palm OS 2.0. This improved version of the built-in software offers dozens of welcome enhancements to the built-in programs. For example, the Calendar program now offers a month-at-a-glance view; you can reschedule Calendar events by dragging them to different days of the week; you can reorder items in the Memo Pad's table of contents; and individual Memo Pad screens now have scroll bars that let you move easily through longer documents. You'll read about these enhancements in Chapter 4.

  • 512K of memory.

  • Expense. A program for recording your expenses while on the road, suitable for submitting to your boss for reimbursement when you return (see Chapter 5).

  • Palm Game Pack. HardBall (otherwise known as Breakout), SubHunt, Puzzle (slide the tiles back into the correct square matrix), and MineHunt. More about these games in Chapter 5.
