16.5. Executive Tip Summary

  • To save battery juice, keep the Palm VII antenna folded when you're not actually going online.

  • If reception is a problem, try to give the device access to the sky. Move closer to a window—or just move a few feet in one direction or another. Keep the antenna vertical.

  • In theory, there's no way to transfer your iMessenger wireless email to the desktop. In practice, however, you can visit http://www.palm.net web site to request that a blind carbon-copy of each outgoing message be sent to your regular desktop email address. You can also open your iMessenger backup file in any Windows word processor to view the text of all iMessenger messages, albeit separated by a line of computer garbage.

  • Hold the stylus tip down on the title bar of a results screen to see how many bytes it cost you.

  • To cut down on the amount of expensive data you're transmitting, use a different "reply-to" address on your outgoing iMessenger emails. You can also save data by quoting back only the minimum in your replies—not the entire incoming message.

  • The 24 Palm Query Applications (PQAs) provided with the Palm VII are only the beginning. More are available at http://www.palm.net—and you can even make your own, following the instructions in Appendix D.
