12.3. Executive Tip Summary

  • Database and spreadsheet programs for the PalmPilot range from full-featured and large (HanDBase and Quicksheet) to tiny and bare-bones (MobileDB and TinySheet). Install accordingly.

  • You don't have to open a List View row to edit pop-up menus, checkboxes, dates, and times. JFile and HanDBase let you edit these data in place, right there in List View. To enable this feature, however, you must visit the Preferences screen and turn on the corresponding checkboxes.

  • Pilot MiniCalc is a compact, useful midrange spreadsheet, but its default decimal-point precision (15 zeros) may drive you crazy. Change its Global preferences to the Decimal format with a "Frac" value of to eliminate the extra zeros.

  • You can exchange your Palm data and number-crunching work with almost any Mac or Windows database or spreadsheet program. Convenient converters automate the process—and as a last resort, you can import and export comma-separated text files as an intermediate step between Palm and Desktop.
