Troubleshooting DV Camcorder Connections

Digital video (DV) camcorders connect to a PC through the IEEE-1394a (FireWire, i.Link) port for video transfer. Some DV camcorders also include flash memory capability for use in still-image capture, and these models use the USB port, just as normal digital cameras do.

If your PC has the new 800Mbps IEEE-1394b (FireWire 800) port instead of IEEE-1394a, don't fret. Most implementations of 1394b include a bilingual port designed to connect to both 1394b and 1394a. Just use a 1394b to four-pin 1394a cable, and your DV camcorder can “talk” to your new PC.
