About the Authors

Leo Laporte is the former host of two shows on TechTV—The Screen Savers and Call for Help. Leo is a weekend radio host on Los Angeles radio KFI AM 640 and co-hosts Call for Help on Canada's TechTV network. He also appears regularly on many other television and radio programs, including ABC's World News Now and Live with Regis and Kelly as “The Gadget Guy.” He is the author of four recent bestsellers: Leo Laporte's 2005 Gadget Guide, Leo Laporte's Mac Gadget Guide, Leo Laporte's Guide to TiVo, and Leo Laporte's 2005 Technology Almanac.

In January 1991, he created and co-hosted Dvorak On Computers, the most listened to high-tech talk radio show in the nation, syndicated on more than 60 stations and around the world on the Armed Forces Radio Network. Laporte also hosted Laporte on Computers on KSFO and KGO Radio in San Francisco.

On television, Laporte was host of Internet!, a weekly half-hour show airing on PBS in 215 cities nationwide. He reported on new media for Today's First Edition, on PBS, and did daily product reviews and demos on New Media News, broadcast nationally on Jones Computer Network and ME/U, and regionally on San Francisco's Bay TV.

Mark Edward Soper has taught computer troubleshooting and other technical subjects to thousands of students from Maine to Hawaii since 1992.

He is a longtime contributor to Upgrading and Repairing PCs, working on the 11th through 16th Editions. He has contributed chapters to Upgrading and Repairing Networks Second Edition, Special Edition Using Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, and Special Edition Using Microsoft Windows XP (both Home and Pro editions).

Mark co-authored both the first and second editions of Upgrading and Repairing PCs, Technician's Portable Reference, and Upgrading and Repairing PCs: Field Guide. He also co-wrote Upgrading and Repairing PCs: A+ Study Certification Guide, Second Edition and TechTV's Upgrading Your PC.

Mark is the author of TechTV's Upgrading Your PC, Second Edition and Easy Digital Cameras. Mark also authored Absolute Beginner's Guide to Home Networking, Absolute Beginner's Guide to A+ Certification, and Absolute Beginner's Guide to Home Automation.

Mark has written articles for MaximumPC magazine and contributed chapters to The MaximumPC Ultimate PC Performance Guide and The MaximumPC Guide to Building a Dream PC.

He has also written for Skywire Software's Answer Suite Content Library and developed test questions for ReviewNet. Since 2004, Mark has been teaching classes on digital photography and image archiving for Ivy Tech State College, Evansville, Indiana.
