Chapter 10. Browsing the Wireless Web > Save a Web Page for Offline Viewing

Save a Web Page for Offline Viewing

Seeing that mobile devices are often used in areas without Internet access, such as airplanes, it can be helpful to download and save a web page so that you can view it offline. The Blazer browser makes it incredibly easy to save a page for offline viewing. To do so, follow these steps:

1.
Navigate to a page in the Blazer browser.

2.
Press the Menu button and then scroll down to and select the Save Page command. The New Saved Page Bookmark screen opens and looks surprisingly similar to the window you saw earlier for creating a new bookmark. In fact, saving a page for offline viewing involves creating a bookmark for the page.

Tip

If your data service provider requires a proxy for connecting to the Internet, tap the Set Proxy button in the Advanced tab. After enabling the proxy, you're prompted to specify the port number for the proxy. Your data service provider should supply this information.

3.
The name and description of the page to be saved are shown in the New Saved Page Bookmark screen. Feel free to edit this information if you'd like. Otherwise, tap the OK button to accept the new bookmark and save the page for offline viewing. A confirmation screen appears and lets you know that the page was successfully saved. Tap the OK button to continue.

4.
After saving the page for offline viewing, you are taken to the bookmark list. Figure 10.12 shows the bookmark list with the saved page bookmark clearly in view. Notice a small orange (trust me, it's orange) triangle in the upper-right corner of the bookmark—this icon indicates that the page is saved for offline viewing.
