Upgrade #2: Adding RAM to a Portable PC

Upgrading memory on a portable PC is a little different than with a desktop system. On one hand, it's easier; memory is typically added through an easily accessible compartment on the bottom of the unit. On the other hand, it's more complicated; every manufacturer (and seemingly every model) uses different non-standard memory types and form factors.

caution

When you're installing RIMM modules, you cannot leave any RIMM sockets empty. Any empty slots must be occupied by a continuity module (sometimes called a continuity RIMM), which looks like a standard RIMM but with no memory chips installed.
