Part III: Resources > Robots on the Web

Chapter 12. Robots on the Web

In this chapter

  • Portals

  • Robot-specific sites

  • Robot communities

  • Robot research centers

  • Useful bot-building references

As we discussed in Chapter 2, “Robot Evolution,” there has probably been no greater accelerator of robot evolution than the information distribution, communication, and collaboration tool known as the World Wide Web. There are literally thousands of sites and discussion boards dedicated to every type and every aspect of robotics. In the following sections, you will find the proverbial tip of the iceberg. These are sites that either act as gateways (portals) to a host of other sites, or provide a worthwhile summary of a particular area of robotic investigation. We’ve also listed a few of the best robot communities online, places where you can go to hook up with people who share your particular interests. From the sites listed here, like a good little spider, you can probably click your way through to just about every robot-related thread on the Web. Ain’t technology grand?
