Chapter 7. Hardware Annoyances > STRAIGHTEN UP AND DISPLAY RIGHT

STRAIGHTEN UP AND DISPLAY RIGHT

The Annoyance:

My mother called recently with yet another gripe about her PC (kvetching must run in the family). This time she was upset because she couldn't figure out why all of the images on her screen were tilted at a slight angle.

The Fix:

It's a worthy kvetch, unless you like tilting your head when you type. The problem is with the monitor's controls. Your mother's monitor may have a button called "Image Tilt" or "Rotate". Simply turn the knob and you'll see the picture straighten out. If the monitor uses onscreen controls, look for a "Geometry" control-something that involves fiddling with trapezoids and parallelograms. Select the geometric shape from the onscreen menu that most closely resembles the monitor's current problem, and start pushing the + and - keys (or whatever the CRT uses for changing the value of the setting).
