Chapter 7. Hardware Annoyances > USE YOUR NOTEBOOK AT HOME

USE YOUR NOTEBOOK AT HOME

The Annoyance:

I use a notebook as a substitute for a desktop PC. But it's a real pain in the neck (literally). I have to put it on a stack of phone books so the screen is at the right height, but then the keyboard is too high!

The Fix:

The solution could be the Oyster, a smart way to dock your notebook (http://snipurl.com/oysterdock). Open your notebook so it's flat, slide the keyboard end into the $150 Oyster, and voila-the LCD is facing you at eye level. Now connect a USB mouse and keyboard to the Oyster's USB ports (the gizmo includes a four-port USB 2.0 hub with a spot to hide the cables) and you're good to go (see Figure 7-8).
