Chapter 7. Hardware Annoyances > PAPER-SAVING PRINT UTILITY

PAPER-SAVING PRINT UTILITY

The Annoyance:

It just galls me that half the time I print a web page, I end up with an extra page with one or two lines on it.

The Fix:

Internet Explorer and other browsers do have a print preview function. In IE, select File → Print Preview and click through the pages. Don't need the last page? Press Esc, select File → Print, enter a page range, and click OK. Want complete control over what you print, how it looks, and (more importantly) what doesn't print? Pick up FinePrint, a clever $50 utility. Just preview what you want to print and delete the extra page. Better yet, you can print four miniature pages on one page, scale large pages to print on smaller pages, or send dozens of separate jobs to the printer, saving some for later printing or deleting others (see Figure 7-6). And if you're curious about what happens when your printer misbehaves, take a look at Figure 7-7. You can download a trial copy of FinePrint at http://www.oreilly.com/pcannoyances.
