Chapter 7. Hardware Annoyances > SAVE BIG WITH LOW-RESOLUTION PRINTS

SAVE BIG WITH LOW-RESOLUTION PRINTS

The Annoyance:

My inkjet printer was cheap-I bought it for a mere $60. But I have to spend a fortune on inkjet refill cartridges that seem to last less than a month.

The Fix:

It's pretty simple to extend the life of any print cartridge by setting the default quality of the printer to "draft" mode. Open the Printers and Faxes control panel, right-click the printer, and select Properties. Choose the Device Options tab and click Print Quality; select the lowest quality and exit the menus. Printout won't be nearly as sharp as you'd like, but for draft copies, it's more than adequate. And you will save money.
