Chapter 7. Hardware Annoyances > CHECK FOR LOOSE CABLES

CHECK FOR LOOSE CABLES

The Annoyance:

My monitor works fine most of the time but occasionally flickers on and off. If I reboot the system, it works fine again, then flickers after a few hours. It's driving me nutty.

The Fix:

Check the cables. Repeat. Don't think it's something this simple? I once spent half a day diagnosing my faulty dialup connection only to discover the telephone line was plugged into the wrong jack on the modem. Another fiasco was forgetting to reconnect the network cable after moving my PC. By the way, this intermittent problem can occur with a modem, scanner, or practically any device that's connected to your PC with a cable.
