MUSIC AND VIDEO ANNOYANCES

KEEP ALL YOUR MUSIC THE SAME VOLUME

The Annoyance:

I have lots of MP3s I've ripped onto my hard drive from my CD music collection. The problem is, Copeland's "Fanfare" is so loud it blasts me out of my chair, and the next song, Dave Brubecks' "Take Five," is way too soft. Can I impose the same volume level on all my cuts?

The Fix:

The trick is to adjust-or normalize-the sound level as you're ripping the MP3 to disk, and many ripping programs offer that feature. The problem is what to do after the fact:
