Chapter 16. Troubleshooting > Troubleshooting the iPod Shuffle

16.3. Troubleshooting the iPod Shuffle

Even without a screen or hard drive, the iPod Shuffle may encounter a few glitches along the way. Here are a few of the more common problems.

16.3.1. The Buttons On My iPod Shuffle Don't Respond

The iPod Shuffle doesn't have a Hold switch like the big Pods, but you can lock up its buttons to prevent the accidental pressing that really runs a battery down. If your Shuffle is ignoring you, odds are it got put into a holding pattern—which happens when the button is held down for about three seconds. (The LED will flash orange three times to announce that the Shuffle's buttons are locked, but if you didn't notice the button being pressed down, you probably missed the orange light show, too.)
