Download an attachment that someone sent you

Mail makes it very easy to download (copy) files from an email to your Desktop. Now, whether you can actually “open” a file someone sent you, once it's on your Desktop, is a completely different matter! If someone sends you a file created in a program you don't have on your Mac, you might not be able to open it. That's not your fault—the person sending the file should ask if you can open that file type, and if not, prepare the file in such a way that you can. But that's a separate big topic.

Keep in mind that you never want to open attachments from someone you don't know!
