Open a blank document

TextEdit automatically opens a blank document window, ready for you to work.

You will, at some point, open an application that doesn't automatically provide a blank window. In that case, just go to the File menu and choose “New.”

At some point you might also want to choose a new blank window when you've finished with one document and want to get started on another. You don't have to quit the application—just open a “New” document. You can have as many documents open at once as you like.
