Chapter 5. Contacts > Beaming and Sending Contacts

Beaming and Sending Contacts

Every Palm device includes an infrared (IR) port for beaming data from one device to another. Most folks use IR to swap electronic business cards directly into other people's Contacts. If you've ever returned from a conference or trade show with a stack of business cards (and then lost them), you'll appreciate how useful beaming can be. And, if you own a Bluetooth-enabled handheld, you can choose to send to another wireless device.

To specify your business card

1.
Find yourself (in the Contacts list—we can talk more about philosophy later). Tap the record to select it.

2.
Choose Select Business Card from the Record menu (Figure 5.52).

Figure 5.52. Choose the record you want for your business card (preferably the one with your name on it), then activate it from the Record menu.

3.
If you're sure, tap Yes in the confirmation dialog. A special icon appears next to the Contact view and Contact Edit tabs (Figure 5.53).

Figure 5.53. The record designated as your business card displays a “beaming file card” icon next to the Contact tab. The best way to zap it to another IR-equipped Palm device is to just hold down the Contacts button on the front of the handheld.
