Chapter 4. Calendar > Beaming and Sending Events

Beaming and Sending Events

In the movies, conspirators are always synchronizing their watches to make sure everyone's on the same schedule. In the real world, we use the Palm OS to beam appointments to colleagues and family members, and thereby avoid having anyone say, “Why didn't you tell me there's a meeting today?”

Newer PalmOne handhelds such as the Zire 72 and Tungsten T3 include Bluetooth wireless connectivity, which enables you to send records to another Bluetooth-enabled device or to a compatible cell phone. You can also use the Send function to attach a record to an outgoing email message.

To beam an event

1.
Tap an event to select it.

2.
Choose Beam Event from the Record menu, write -B, or tap the Beam Event icon () from the command bar (Figure 4.47).

Figure 4.47. Palm devices equipped with infrared capabilities can beam records to one another easily.

If the recipient's Beam Receive preference is set to On and the IR ports are aimed at each other, the record will be transferred (Figure 4.48).

Figure 4.48. Be sure your Palm device is pointed at the recipient, and within seconds the record is transferred.

To receive a beamed event

Make sure your Beam Receive preference is set to On. Aim your IR port at the other person's Palm device.

2.
After you've received the beamed record, you will be asked if you wish to add it to the Calendar. Tap Yes or No.

✓ Tip

  • Though beamed records are automatically set as unfiled, the recipient can choose to shuffle them to a category of their own or create a new one.

Figure 4.49. Choosing Send Event gives you the option of transmitting wirelessly via Bluetooth (select a device from the Discovery Results, shown above) or sending as an attachment in VersaMail.
