Chapter 4. Calendar > Setting Alarms

Setting Alarms

Remember the days of carrying a travel alarm clock? They're long gone, friend.

To set an alarm

1.
After you've created an event, tap Details and mark the Alarm checkbox.

2.
Choose the amount of time before the event that the alarm should go off. Minutes is the default, but you can also select Hours or Days (Figure 4.27).

Figure 4.27. Traffic likely to be bad? Specify a longer time period for the alarm to go off before an event.

To respond to an alarm

Tap OK to dismiss the Reminder screen when the alarm activates (Figure 4.28).

Figure 4.28. The alarm's Reminder screen appears before an event, accompanied by a cheerful chime.

Tap the Snooze button to give yourself a few extra minutes before the alarm goes off again. A small indicator at the upper-left corner of the screen indicates the impending alarm.

Tap the Go To button to display the event in Calendar.

To change alarm options

1.
Go to the Calendar Preferences dialog box (choose Preferences from the Options menu, or write -R).

2.
Choose your favorite Alarm Sound.

3.
Choose the “snooze” options: Remind Me specifies how often the alarm will go off before you dismiss it. Play Every sets the time between reminders (Figure 4.29).

Figure 4.29. Calendar gives you several options for alarms, including repeating reminders and seven different sounds.

✓ Tip

  • You can delete an event by simply selecting its text and deleting it—it magically disappears from Palm Desktop on your next HotSync. But if it's a repeating event or has a note attached, you'll have a blank record.
