Back Up Your Data

Back Up Your Data

When you perform a HotSync, the data on your handheld gets copied to your user directory on your PC or Macintosh—or rather, most of it gets copied. The data from third-party applications may get backed up at HotSync, but the applications themselves sometimes don't, depending on which version of the Palm OS you're running (versions prior to Palm OS 3.3 can be problematic in this respect). In the event of a hard reset, where all data on the device is lost (see next section), it's great to be able to restore everything to the state it was in before the reset. To ensure that you're getting a full backup, we recommend the essential Backup-Buddy (www.bluenomad.com), which is available for both Windows and Mac.

It allows you to back up and restore your full data, as well as perform incremental backups. If you have to do a complete restoration of your data, simply perform a HotSync. BackupBuddy VFS can back up your data to a memory expansion card in the device.
