You might need a hub

You've noticed that after you plug in your keyboard, you only have one usb port left. But what if you want to add more peripherals to your iMac? What if you get a printer and a scanner, a Zip drive, a floppy disk drive, a cd-rom writer, another kind of printer, and a drawing tablet? Where will you plug them in? Well, to add more peripherals, you need to buy a hub. A hub, as illustrated below, is a little box with a usb connector on one end that plugs into that one extra usb port on the side of your iMac. On the other side of the hub are a number of usb ports that you can connect more devices to. In fact, you can connect hubs to hubs to hubs, so in theory you could have up to 127 different peripheral devices attached to your iMac.

Hubs aren't very expensive. At the moment they cost less than $100. Just make sure if you buy one that it is made to work with your iMac.
