Part II: Things to Do with your iMac  > Fax a Note to Someone

Chapter 9. Fax a Note to Someone

On your iMac you have the software called FAXstf. With this software you can do things like send what's called a "QuickNote," which is just like it sounds—a quick note faxed to someone. Or you can create a letter in any software program of your choice and fax it right from the screen. And you can also receive faxes into your computer (your iMac must be turned on), then print the fax on your own printer (or just read it on the screen and never print it at all). It's great and it's easy. In this chapter I'll walk you through sending a QuickNote fax, a formatted fax page from AppleWorks, and I'll also show you how to set things up so your iMac will receive faxes.

Warning

Some models of the iMac have an extra little piece of software that starts up automatically and conflicts with this fax software. I highly recommend you go to page 294 in Chapter 23 and follow the directions to make sure there is no check in the box for an item called "Serial Port Monitor."
