The Desktop

When your computer finishes booting, what you see on the screen is called the Desktop—the Desktop is the entire area that fills your monitor (your screen), as shown below and on the opposite page. Now, you might also hear the Desktop referred to as the Finder. Specifically, the Finder is actually the software (the programming code) that runs the Desktop, but you can call it by either term you like, and you will hear it called the Finder or the Desktop interchangeably. When you see directions that tell you, "At the Finder … ," they mean go back to this Desktop. When they say, "At the Desktop … ," they mean at the Finder.
