Chapter 1. Mousing, Menus, and More > Date & Time Control Panel

Date & Time Control Panel

Let's go to the "Date & Time" Control Panel for one last exercise in using the mouse, menus, h-menus, and Control Panels.

  1. Just as you did before, click on the Apple menu, then slide down to Control Panels, then out and down the list. This time choose "Date & Time" (click once on it).

  2. Poke around in this Control Panel. It's quite self-explanatory. The only thing you need to know is that to change the date or time, first click right on the number you want to change, then either click the tiny arrows up or down, or type in a new number.

For instance, to change the month, click once on the month number. Then to the right of that date, the little up and down arrows appear (remember, items are gray until you can use them; in this case, the arrows are gray until you choose which number you want to change). Click an arrow to change the month number. To change the day, click once on the day number, then click the little arrows or type in a new day.

To lock in the new date, either click on the tiny calendar icon, or just close the Control Panel (click the little Close Box in the upper-left corner).

    Tip

You might find a Control Panel that doesn't have a Close Box! If so, go to the File menu and choose "Quit."

Go ahead and click the other buttons and make all the changes you want. You can't hurt anything, and you can always change it again.
