Kilobytes and megabytes—what are they? Who cares?

The terms kilobytes, megabytes, and gigabytes might sound scary, but they're really not. They are just measuring terms, like ounces, pounds, and tons. In the computer, kilobytes are the ounces, megabytes are the pounds, and gigabytes are the tons.

Note

There are approximately 1,000 bytes in one kilobyte; 1,000 kilobytes in one megabyte; and 1,000 megabytes in one gigabyte.
