Chapter 5. Make a Simple Database > Sort the information in your database

Sort the information in your database

Once your database is set up, you can sort (organize) the information in a number of ways. If you don't have enough records to organize in your file yet, take a moment to add a few more. Then experiment with sorting.

Tip

If you don't enter data exactly the same way every time, then your sort won't work very well. For instance, if you enter McCoy (no space) or Mc Coy (with a space), the name with the space will be sorted before the name with no space (in computerized alphabetizing, spaces come before letters).

Capital letters are sorted differently from lowercase, also, so Penelope vonSchnitzel would come before Abigail VonSchnitzel if you sort by last names.
