Step 1: Connect to the Internet and open a browser

  1. If you have a permanent connection such as cable, dsl, a T1 line, or if you're on a network with an Internet connection at the office, then you're already there, connected to the Internet. All you need to do is open your favorite browser by double-clicking its icon.

You'll find these aliases in the "Internet" folder. Drag them to the Desktop so you can access them easily.

  2. If you're using America Online, double-click its icon to open it. If you have a permanent connection as mentioned above, all you have to do is sign on to AOL. If you have a "dial up" connection with a phone line connected from your computer to a phone jack, AOL will connect when you sign on.

  3. If you signed up with a local ISP or with EarthLink and your modem has to dial a phone number to connect, double-click that icon on the right side of your Desktop called "Browse the Internet." That will open the connection and also open your browser.

The original of this is in the "Internet Utilities" folder, inside the "Internet" folder.

If you don't have that icon anymore: Go to the Apple menu, choose "Remote Access Status," and click the "Connect" button; or click the telephone pole icon () in the Control Strip and choose "Connect" from the menu. Then double-click the browser icon to open the browser.

These two icons will flash back and forth when you're connected.
