Chapter 9. Fax a Note to Someone > Connect your iMac to a phone line

Connect your iMac to a phone line

To fax, you don't have to have an Internet connection or email address or anything like that, but you do have to plug in a phone cable to a phone jack or into an extra port on a telephone. A phone cable came with your iMac. If you've already connected your computer to the Internet through a phone line, you're all set; if you use a cable modem or dsl for your Internet access, you'll need to add the phone cable for faxing. Just plug a phone cable into the little slot on the side of your iMac that is labeled with a tiny picture of a phone handset, and plug the other end into either a wall jack or a phone (the phone must be plugged into the wall jack, of course). You can buy little "doublers" at any office supply store that let you plug two or more cables into one outlet or one phone.
